Will Writers
The Government-backed Legal Services Consumer Panel has called for all will writers to be regulated. Currently anyone can set up in business as a will writer regardless of their experience, qualifications, indemnity insurance and safe storage arrangements. They can often be found offering services in shopping malls and local newspaper ads at what appear to be knock-down prices. The consumer watchdog has just concluded a review and its report pulls no punches. LSCP Chair Dianne Hayter said "The Panel was shocked by the poor quality of wills in the mystery shopping." They uncovered evidence of inadequate wills, sharp sales practices and lost wills where the original provider had ceased trading.
